Are you struggling to find your marketing “voice”?

Last year, I was determined to really hone in on my ideal client profile, and I made a lot of great strides. I could describe their demographic, their problem, where they were hanging out online - all the things the marketing gurus tell you is important. And while it was satisfying to know that I could finally name all these criteria clearly and hone my content with that, something still felt off.

If that sounds similar to your experience, I'm excited to share that I finally figured out the one quality was missing from the profile:

My ideal client is excited to work with me and shares my values.

I know that might seem like a subtle and maybe even unnecessary addition, but hear me out. If you believe your clients are on the fence and your marketing needs to convince them to work with you, you tend to stifle what's really on your heart for fear of scaring those potential clients away. For example, I was so worried that I might scare away folks with words like "decolonize" and "anti-capitalist" that I wouldn't use them in my marketing.

Here's the thing though - I'm looking for clients that want to learn how to build a business that integrates decolonized and anti-capitalist practices. And, just as importantly, those clients are looking for me!! Those spaces are hard to come by. By trying so hard to appease the audience that is easily scared by those words, I'm actually excluding the clients I came here to serve.

If this resonates with you, I encourage you to listen to the Episode 24 of my podcast - The One Thing Holding New Business Owners Back - for more insight and journaling exercises to continue reflecting 🎙️
